Mike Harrison

Management and consultancy

Many organisations can benefit from an experienced outsider’s view of their operations. I can offer management consultancy, training, interim management and director skills relevant to large and small companies and to non-profit organisations.
I have extensive experience of operating at high level in client organisations. For example I ran and serviced HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s environment committee at the Royal Society of Arts and negotiated on behalf of the UK Government with the European Commission regarding international environmental award schemes.

“The President has asked me to write and thank you for all the arrangements concerned with the presentation this morning…  various briefing papers produced by Mike Harrison were of particular use to The Duke of Edinburgh in his preparations for the visit.”

(Letter from the office of The Duke of Edinburgh, expressing his thanks as President of the RSA, following awards ceremony managed by Mike Harrison at Buckingham Palace.)

I acted as an adviser during the emergence of The Queen's Award for Environmental Achievement, and its links with European award schemes. This has led  some of my consultancy clients to seek my assistance with their own application for awards.

As a producer at the BBC I was responsible for the budgets of tv series and introduced formal project management methods as a tool for controlling production. I subsequently taught these methods as a module for students of  multi-media production at Birkbeck, University of London.

During the media explosion of the 1980s and 90s I was involved in a number of emerging ventures including roles as managing director (Gear-Harrison Communications Ltd), director of projects (IMS plc), temporary executive (Thorn EMI) or project manager (Proudfoot Group).

I also put these skills to use as a consultant  - for example to Care Britain, Millennium Experience Company, RPS Group plc, WWF UK, and the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group - dealing with strategic and communications issues.
